The personal effects of Haiti

Natural disasters happen almost daily around the world. Some make the news, many don't. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti not too long ago certainly made the news. Its sad news but not many of us are affected by it directly. Remember 9/11? That was on American soil; so close to us. Even though not all of us lost someone in the tragic event, all of us were affected. Haiti seems the same. I think the whole world was affected by Haiti's earthquake. Hundreds of thousands of people are trying to help out in Haiti. How am I affected personally? H is there helping out.

Now, H and I already live 3000 miles away but him being in Dominican Republic to help out with Haiti is affecting me more than I imagined. I wake up in the morning thinking and praying for his safety. I haven't been able to sleep well the past couple of days because I worry if he is well. I worry if he has eaten. I worry if is got any rest. I feel like I'm being selfish. I mean there's thousands of people that are homeless and have no food or clean water and I sit here worrying about my guy's safety and well being. But I can't stop. Him being away and trying his very best to help out in Haiti is affecting me personally and directly. Sometimes I feel like getting on a plane and just making sure he is well fed and resting. Am I being selfish?

Day 17/365

We are well into 2010 (17 days to be exact) and I haven't posted up any updates yet! I've been on vacation and what a great vacation it was! You know its a great vacation when you don't get the time to even sneak in a post!

I visited my love, Hector for a couple of weeks. We had a wonderful time. I got to see Virginia for the second time. Even though we had plenty of opportunities to visit D.C again, both of us chose not to. It was too cold!

The minute I stepped out of the airport, I knew it was going to be burrrr... the entire time I was there. How right I was! It snowed one time while I was there. My first snow! H asked me to go outside with him for I could enjoy the snow. It was awesome. So quiet, so serene! Lovely! I think I might have stepped out into a different world while watching the flurries fall.

I also visited some great sites. We went to Great Falls. It was awesome. It was freezing out but the view was amazing. If you are ever in the area, be sure to check out Great Falls. It is very well worth it!

I also got to celebrate H's mom's birthday, met some of his family members, cooked for family a couple of times, and most importantly spend some quality time with my love. I must tell you, love is a great feeling.

So, now I'm back to posting. Not as regularly as I used to because school starts tomorrow and I am tackling 20 units this semester. I know that is insane but I must get school done. Have many goals for 2010, school being on top! Wish me luck and talk to you guys later!

Have a great MLK Day!
